DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

At Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery, we believe in preparing our children for a technological future. We aim to provide children with design and technology skills that will be vital for future jobs and provide valuable life skills. We ensure design and technology is an inspiring, practical subject.

Design and technology is taught through a creative curriculum. Children have stimulating and exciting DT projects that enhance their learning. Our pupils design and make products that solve real, relevant problems within a variety of contexts. We help them to develop technical knowledge and skills, to handle and use tools with care and with awareness of health and safety issues. They are encouraged to take risks, to become resourceful, innovative citizens.

Pupils have opportunities to evaluate past and present designs to develop a critical understanding of the impact of design and technology on their daily life and in the wider world. Design and technology helps children to become potential innovators.

“Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.”
