FRIENDS OF HASLINGTON SCHOOL

WELCOME

Friends of Haslington School (FOHS) is a charity that raises funds to benefit the children of Haslington Primary Academy.

We are a group of friendly parents, guardians, carers and school staff that rely on support from the wider school community to make FOHS a success. We need involvement from parents both to run the subcommittees for our fundraising events and to volunteer their time to help with/at events.

Getting involved gives you the opportunity to support and contribute to the school whilst getting to know other parents in an informal and friendly environment. We greatly appreciate any assistance, support and ideas!

We hold termly meetings and are always happy to see ‘old’ and ‘new’ faces.

COMMUNITY MEMBERS

The committee members have been elected as follows and will remain in position until the next AGM:

Chair – Sara Bratt
Vice Chair – Alex Lewis
Treasurer- Kevin Mooney
Secretary – Katy Barker
School Link Officer – Olivia Morris

Committee Members – I Rutter, C Bannerman, C Carless, L Roberts-Wilcox

We are always seeking new committee members and there will be opportunity to be co-opted onto the committee at our termly meetings. Please do speak to us to express any interest in joining us. We appreciate you!

2022-2023

Over the last few years FOHS has been trying to gain momentum again ‘post covid’.  2022 saw the return of our very successful Summer and Christmas Fayres, which have been incredibly effective at raising funds to directly support our school children. Children enjoyed the return of our autumn discos, which were well attended by all year groups, amongst other activities including craft sessions in school and prizes for events such as world book day.

Fundraising Totals 2022-2023:
Sunflowers: £3000
Christmas Cards: £235.30
Discos: £357.35
Tuck Shop £118.70
Christmas Fayre £2608.76
Amazon Smile £33.78
Roberts Recycling £4.50
Interest £1.57

Purchases made for the year 2022-2023

  • Easter chocolate for all of the children
  • World Book Day prizes
  • A considerable contribution to school trips across the school – split evenly per child.
  • Contribution towards year 6 leavers trip and end of year cinema visit

FUTURE GOALS

We are currently aiming to raise £11,000 to buy new reading books for each class and 30 new IPADS for the school. We are well on our way to our fundraising goal – see our most recent fundraising thermometer chart below!

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED

There are lots of ways you can support your child through FOHS. Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable – it really is a case of ‘many hands make light work.’ It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you can’t come into school. There are always little jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare e.g. wrapping gifts, preparing raffle tickets, etc. we really couldn’t achieve what we do without the unseen ‘army of help’ that exists in school.

You can of course, if you feel able, volunteer to be a Committee (ordinary) Member or you can simply support the AGM and give us your ideas for fundraising events. This is also the time to ask questions or voice your opinion.

You can help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use, everything is potentially valuable to us.

If you would like to get in touch and offer any help, please contact us via our Facebook page (Friends of Haslington School) or speak to committee members.

The request to join the FB page will be taken as consent to receive information on upcoming events, fundraising targets, parent volunteer requests in relation to the purpose of the charity. Members can remove themselves from the site at any time.
