PHYSICAL EDUCATION

P.E LEAD: MRS MORRIS & MISS HETHERINGTON

“A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.”

At Haslington Primary Academy, we aim to offer a broad range of sporting activities with the aim of getting every pupil active and enjoying sport. Lessons are delivered every week to each class and are structured around building the skills needed to play and enhance their participation in certain sports. We look at a variety of different sports each year and progress from skills-based learning to game-based learning through our sessions.

WHAT WE DO

We work closely with ‘Ministry 4 Sport’ to deliver quality lessons to our students both in our school and nursery. Ministry 4 Sport are a local sports provider who are present in many local schools in our surrounding area. Their coaches have a vast amount of experience teaching primary school children in and out of an educational setting and are well equipped to deliver the best coaching they can. Mr Bradbury, our designated sports coach, has now been working with our school for over 12 months and we have seen a great improvement and development in the skills and engagement of our pupils since his arrival.

Mrs Morris and Miss Hetherington are our P.E curriculum leaders and oversee the provision at Haslington. We work closely with Mr Bradbury and other class teachers throughout the year to make sure our children are getting involved and making the progress that is expected of them in P.E. Children are assessed on a half termly basis by Mr Bradbury and from these assessments we can evaluate the provision in school and make sure we are adapting to the needs of our children.

We offer many sports after school clubs throughout the school year and participate in competitions within the local Sandbach cluster and across the Trust and as part of the Crewe and Nantwich School Sport Partnership. All information for these will be communicated in advance to parents via Dojo and letter.

We are extremely lucky at Haslington Primary Academy to have the space and equipment available to practise all of our sports and physical education. We have a very large field at the back of the school where most of our sports take place, but also a large tarmac marked pitch that we also make use of. We also have a state of the art outdoor gym area which pupils are able to use during the school day to increase activity and fitness. This outdoor gym area was very kindly funded and supported by our ‘Friends of Haslington School’ (FOHS) who raised a huge amount of money to have this built in the school. We are extremely grateful for all support the FOHS give our school and our outdoor gym area is possibly one of the greatest assets they have bestowed on us. We even had an Olympic Gold Medallist visit for our grand opening!

Sport is such a major part of life at Haslington and we encourage all pupils to make the most of what we have here, and to get involved and active whenever they can.
