RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

INTENT

At Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery, Religious Education has an important role in developing children’s knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews. Religious Education helps pupils understand the religious experience of others. Pupils are introduced to a variety of world faiths and are encouraged to respect the beliefs of others through a knowledge and enquiry-based approach to learning.

IMPLEMENTATION

The school follows the 2022 – 2027 agreed syllabus from Cheshire East – ‘Engaging Encounters, Reasoned Responses, Connecting Communities’. Every pupil has a statutory entitlement to Religious Education as it makes a distinctive contribution to a broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils are given the opportunity to explore the role and significance of religion in society and the important beliefs and values that shape the world today.

To ensure all children cover all areas of the RE curriculum, we have a progression of skills document. Each year group has end of key stage statements that inform our planning.

Six broad themes are used to create enquiry questions that thread through and connect content from Early Years to Year Six. These golden threads are:

God the world and self

What do people believe about God, the world and the self?

Authority

Who/what do people follow? Why? How do people interact with sources of authority?

Personal Belief

How do my personal beliefs affect the way life is lived?

Marking life’s journey

How does my worldview affect how I mark life’s journey?

Religious/Non-religious Worldview in the wider world

How does my worldview relate to the wider world?

Belonging

What does it mean to belong to a Religious/Non-religious community?

IMPLEMENTATION

Throughout the year, our subject lead monitors the planning, teaching and assessing of RE through lesson observations, pupil voice and checking learning and assessments against the progression of skills and knowledge. As a school, we also meet with other RE subject leads from across the Trust, cluster schools and local high schools for support and to ensure that our expectations are similar, as well as our assessments.
